The city council of Riviera Beach, Florida, unanimously voted to pay $600,000 in Bitcoin to a group of hackers who took control of their computer systems. Additionally, the council voted to spend nearly $1 million on new computer equipment because of this attack.

I had a best friend once who was very close with his grandfather, AlexanderHe was the most down to earth guy I knew at the time - always up for company, always telling jokes, and just a genuinely nice guy to be around. My friend and I would throw pool parties at Alexander’s house throughout the summer and both he and his wife were happy to accommodate. I can’t say why he never locked his doors. Maybe it was just a different time. Whatever the reason, it is not a risk most people would want to take today.
